Mosaic House Clubhouse is a supportive community where individuals who struggle with mental illness can build skills and relationships. The Mosaic House Clubhouse is based on the original ideas of Fountain House, the first clubhouse opened in New York City in 1948. The clubhouse model of Psychiatric Rehabilitation offers a full array of services including vocational, educational and social supports. The clubhouse guarantees all participants the following rights:
Some of the hallmarks of the Clubhouse Model include:
Each work unit is responsible to complete specific projects for the clubhouse. While some members pursue volunteer work or continued education, work is the central focus. Members learn valuable skills as they work and build relationships at the clubhouse.
Every clubhouse member has access to Transitional Employment (TE) opportunities which are maintained by the clubhouse, but paid by the employer directly to members. TE's are entry-level competitive jobs in the community which are usually 8-20 hours per week. The TE's last 6-9 months and the member is trained on the job by the clubhouse staff.
Mosaic House offers social hours after the work-ordered day as another tool for building relationships. Experience and research have shown that involvement in a clubhouse or a job increases members' self-esteem, reduces symptoms of mental illness, and reduces the time members are hospitalized.
Mosaic House is open Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 4:00pm with extended hours on Wednesdays, Saturdays and holidays for social activities. Mosaic House is located at 525 Franklin Street, Reading, Pennsylvania.
